Agreement is designed to strengthen care, expand access, and support academic medicine across Minnesota
In November, Fairview and University of Minnesota Physicians (M Physicians) announced a renewed and expanded strategic partnership designed to sustain and strengthen care for Minnesotans, expand patient access, advance medical education and research, and support long-term stability for our academic healthcare workforce.
We are pleased to share that Fairview and M Physicians have now signed a definitive agreement, which formalizes our Strategic Partnership for Minnesota’s Healthcare Future.
Each organization has also reached agreement on a 10-year partnership with the University of Minnesota. These agreements complement both Fairview’s foundational clinical partnership with M Physicians and the relationship between the University of Minnesota and M Physicians as the sole faculty practice of the medical. Under the new agreement, Fairview will remain the largest and longest standing private supporter of these entities.
What happens next
The Strategic Partnership for Minnesota’s Healthcare Future will formally take effect on January 1, 2027. The stability created by this renewed partnership provides immediate continuity for our patients, providers, and employees. Our joint efforts will build on each organization’s unique strengths toward a shared vision for our work together and innovate to solve some of the greatest challenges facing our patients and care delivery in Minnesota.
Fairview and M Physicians have established a joint leadership team to implement our partnership agreement. This team will coordinate workstreams, share learnings, inform and lead future implementation, and ensure progress toward our shared goals. Concurrently, Fairview, M Physicians, and the University will also work together in the coming months to finalize the terms of their 10-year partnership agreements. Updates on this team’s work will be shared throughout 2026.
As we move forward together over the next decade, Fairview and M Physicians will continue to evolve and grow, setting the standard for healthcare excellence in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.
