Fairview and M Physicians are continuing work together to implement our new, binding strategic partnership agreement. Read more about the new partnership here. In a separate, parallel effort, Fairview, M Physicians, and the University of Minnesota will participate in mediation to help shape additional future agreement between the three organizations – specifically focused on shared goals and clarity for the University’s research and education mission.
About the mediation process
The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office has announced the appointment of a distinguished team to facilitate mediation.
Thomas Fraser will serve as mediator. A retired Hennepin County District Court Judge with decades of experience resolving healthcare matters, Judge Fraser brings deep expertise in arbitration and mediation from his career at Fredrikson and Byron, P.A.
Lois Quam and Dr. William McGuire will serve as coequal consultants in the mediation process. Ms. Quam is a longtime healthcare executive, entrepreneur, and former senior U.S. Department of State official with extensive global experience. Dr. McGuire is a pulmonologist and elected member of the National Academy of Medicine with significant experience in academic medicine and overseeing large healthcare systems.
The parties have been asked to abide by confidentiality commitments during the mediation process.

Fairview and M Physicians continue making progress toward completing the definitive agreement that will guide our clinical partnership in the years ahead. While our current clinical agreement remains in place through 2026, we are already planning for a smooth transition to the new partnership structure beginning in 2027.
